This would be a good place to discuses Mr. Simpsons' other comic: I Drew This.

<a href='

http://www.idrewthis.org/archive/irs.gi ... r>
This one I don't think is about polotics but about burocracey. Sure soemtime mistakes are made but to prevent fraud there need to be clear rules to hadnle the mistakes. I'm sure this will be worked out it time and it isn't fair but as Ms. Mudd once said "No one credable said 'life is fair.'"

Is that where Ozy's hat disappears to occasionally?

It's simply autobiographical. The only thing it really reflects is where DCS wishes he was right now in his cartooning career. That, and how silly it is of the IRS that they can't pick up the fact that a little-known cartoonist making $91,000 off of T-shirts is highly unlikely.

I like what Uncle Sam says in the third panel, and of course David in fancy garb.

It was an error but and there are procedures for fixing it but you can't have that large of a loophole in out tax system. Way to meny peopel would take advantage of it and I think that is much worse then anything else here.

What if someone WAS able to sneak 91 grand in t-shirt sales past the IRS? That would be some pretty heavy stuff and if there is evidence of something like that, you have got to expect some serious response to be taken.. On the other hand, missing a decimal point seems like a very careless thing for the IRS to do. Messing up a figure by an order of a hundred is a terrible thing to do in any business whose job is centered around the management of money.

Common sense says that an unsyndicated cartoonist isn't making $91,000, but with all the beaurocricy (I know that spelling isn't even close), it's not like someone at the IRS will see the individual case and say, "Oh, this can't be right!" Odds are likely that the situation will be resolved, but it will probably be a frustrating fight for David, as the paperwork will make matters pretty darn complicated.

No matter how well their procedues work with that meny a few slips like that will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the IRS has less of a chance for these mistakes then most private componies or the other way around but most privite companies deal with a lot less then the IRS deals with.

Becuase the general theme of this forum is almost certainly going to be around politics and the like, I Drew This is much like that, even the more autobiographical strips. (Well maybe except 'beer money')
