I really agree with Ozy here. No moment is wasted if it was spent learning.

However, there are some plants that react to touch by curling away from whoever is doing it.

Some plants react to touch by biting, too.

Imagine if scientists discovered that plants feel pain, and experience emotions. What would the vegans do THEN?

I think vegans avoid eating plants altogether and just eat the fruit that's meant to be eaten.

Plants do feel pain! When I picked up the grass it howled...Oh wait that was the wind!
Nevermind!
Must do more research!

I tells ya, Pikmin are mostly plant and they certainly shriek when I throw them to their deaths by fire, drowning, predator, or electricity. Also, explosions.

Many animals do not feel pain as we know it. For example, when a fish gets snagged on a hook, it mainly gets a sensation telling it to struggle free. Neurologically, it's not the same.
Then they should be called fruitans
There are people called fruitarians who eat only plant parts that fall off dead on their own. I have yet to meet a professed one, tho. Well, except for my fellow fruit bats.

What did the cabbage ever do to her? Maybe it fell on top of her when she went to open her fridge.
Millie: "Hey mom, just going to get some soda for m..... *CLUNK* "
"...That's IT!!! This cabbage is gonna die. DIE!!! Talk, you insipid stinkin' piece of cabbage, or else I'll pull every single one of your leaves off!!!! Huh? HUH?!?!? *rip* Haha! How about
now? *shreds cabbage to bits*
Muhahahahaa!!!

"
Or some such.

There's a Roald Dahl short story called The Sound Machine where an inventor builds a machine to 'hear' the sound plants make. He hears the shrill shriek of roses cut by his neighbour and the deep aching boom of a big tree struck by an axe. The machine drives him half insane because of all he hears and thinks about is the responses by so many living things around him being casually murdered or hurt.
