Better Late than never

Hmmmmm, maybe she should start lying....

:? I'm beginning to miss my math classes. I mean, I haven't solved a single large math equation in almost a year! Art school, now I feel nostalgic. Chalk up another favorite random :wag: !

5+5*5

Get it wrong and I'll slap thee

(I asked it to about 10 people and only 2 have gotten it right)

Order of operations dictate 5*5 come first equals 25+5=30. Did I get it right?

That's the third person to get it right :P

I'm not good at math, so, yeah.

So, how many people guessed 50?

12*3/2(2+4)-3=?

Get it wrong and I will comfort you in the fact that this is not hard.

ok maybe it is. But we gotta realize, that maybe this is why Millie likes to not do it... even though she would be smart enough to do it. I'm lazy to do this too you know :wag:

You kinda wrote it out ambiguously. if (2+4) is not in the denominator, it's 105; if it is, the answer is 0.

2+4=6*2=12

12*3/12-3=
36/12=3-3=0

Yep. Zero. Personally I do not know what you mean by denominator, I just used a basic order of operations equation I have done hundreds of times in my past. Unfortunately I cannot perform complex algebra without the formulas and stuff. So we'll leave it at that.

Compare with:
2+4 = 6
(12)(3/2)(6)=18*6=108
108-3=105

Basically, your equation could be interpreted in one of two ways:
Image=105
Image=0
If you were to type it into my calculator (which does respect order of operations), you'd get the former.

(Thanks to MediaWiki for generating the equations I needed on preview, so I could upload them somewhere more permanent)

I forgot division and fractions work alike... well that works :grin: .
