I love it when the fourth wall is nudged like that. Ozy's expression is definitely saying, "Is she for real, here...?" and it's obviously directed toward the reader.

It's rather formal here.. but I still like it when one of them casts an aside glance at the reader.

Yeah, it's not quite breaking the forth wall... just kinda bending it.
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

It's just a good way to let the reader feel some attachment to the characters.
