<a href='http://www.ozyandmillie.net/2004/om20040113.html' target='_blank'>Post-revolutionary excess</a><br><br><i>One thing I've noticed is that, once you have an audience, you can expect them to react negatively any time you change anything.<br><br>It gets to be a little bit like the boy who cried wolf--if I actually made a change that was damaging to the strip, and readers wrote in to warn me, I probably wouldn't believe them.<br><br>Take Millie's fangs, which you can see clearly in the second panel here.<br><br>You never really saw anyone's teeth, in the strip's earliest days. But when I reworked the character designs, some of the characters--most notably Millie--acquired visible fangs, in the closeups. Some people loved it. But a lot of the mail I got complained about it--I heard frequently that it damaged the strip by making it "less cute."<br><br>I didn't agree then, and I still don't. This is Millie we're talking about--Millie, of all characters, should have sharp teeth. She's cute with an edge. And if the writing doesn't have prominent "teeth," I'm not doing my job--so why shouldn't the art match?<br></i><br><br>I'll decline comment for now, as I'm sure BSP will have enough to say about Millie's fangs to speak for all of us. Except I disagree with the criticism--fangs, I think, are even cuter then non-fanged.

Ah, yes. This naturally reminds me of the debate thread Millie Mudd started about her fangs and her cuteness. What did I say in there again?...<br><br><!--QuoteBegin-Doctor Fred @Millie's fangs thread+--> <table border='0' align='center' width='95%' ><tr><td class='quotetop'><b>Quote:</b> (Doctor Fred @Millie's fangs thread)</td></tr><tr><td class='quotebody'> Hm. I guess I'm saying yes. Millie, in spite of her cute exterior, is a psyco at heart. When she's talking (or when there's any scenario where she has her mouth open) her sharp teath are revealed, being the only aspect of pure evil where everything else is innocent and cute apearing. Her fangs display a shred of her inner leathelness, as if it shows a glimpse of her soul, showing a symbol of the personna we've all come to love. Her evilness is revealed when she shows her fangs. And for some freakin' reason, this makes her look cuter.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table> <!--QuoteEEnd--><br><br>DCS seems to have confirme my thoughts but in much shorter and more efficent terms. What can I say? The fangs rock.

The fangs really make a difference, it seems. The Christmas contest alone has helped to confirm that Simpson's decision, as far as showing fangs is concerned, is very strongly accepted by the more vocal members of this forum.

I love the fangs. I don't know what they mean by it making the strip less cute. If anything, it makes it MORE cute.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

I like the fangs too. They add a touch of reality. They don't hurt Millie's cuteness factor, either.<br><br>Actually, Ozy and Avery frequently show their fangs in close-ups too.<br>

Yes, I don't think that having fangs makes it less cute at all.

Well, as far as I can see, everyone who has posted in this thread is in consensus that the fangs make her cuter. I am!<br><br><!--QuoteBegin-BSP+--> <table border='0' align='center' width='95%' ><tr><td class='quotetop'><b>Quote:</b> (BSP)</td></tr><tr><td class='quotebody'> Liking the fangs could be a furry thing...<br>BAH! Millie is a fox. Foxes are supposed to have fangs (at least on this world anyway). I hardly noticed the fact, and she still looks cute.

Personally i don't have an idea on the fangs, i think most of the people who wrote in at the time were basing the cute issue on the change of art style. Whether the older or newer style is cuter (or better) is up to you.<br>For me the fangs are just an added layer, they contribute but don't take a large significance. I'd never thought if they make Millie cuter or not, cute isn't something i search for when reading Ozy and Millie.

Millie is not innocent and sweet... she may seem cute at times in the way she acts but she definately has an attitude... therefore should have fangs to go along with it. And, I agree they actually do make her look cuter so what harm done?

she used to be innoncent and sweet... at least, compared to now. i think it's a personality thing. look at the 98 archives. the fangs grew with her personality. at least i think so... i could be wrong.
