The meaning of like

I've seen this done (and have done it myself often) before. I've called it "complicating the question", and it is often a symptom if thinking too much. Thinking too much tends to run rampant around this time of the year and in May as students everywhere try to prepare for finals and final projects. The good news is that the symptoms usually fade after a few weeks, often within a day of the last final.

Yes, when tackling huge assignments and upcoming tests at about this time, the philosophy of "screw this!" seems to suddenly have much more meaning to me.

Crap. I'm only in my junior year in high school and I feel burned-out sometimes. How will I survive college? Why did I make the mistake of letting the school know I'm smart? The school punishes the smart kids by giving them ten times as much works in honors and AP classes while slackers in general classes do no work. Why do I have to work 10 times as hard for straight A's than some slacker who gets straight A's because he takes easy classes and sits on his lazy butt and...sorry, ranted. School's been getting kinda stressful lately with sadistic english teachers pre-calc.

I'd better be about 80 million times richer then those slackers someday; these honors classes better pay off in spades.

BSP I don't think you're exactly in a positon to tell a grad student how to feel during finals time. You've never expirenced grad shool.

Great Ozy:
It's ok to feel burned out. I did in high school too. You just get used to more and more work. Ok, so that's not exactly incouraging but it should be. Read it a few more times. Also it will pay off taking AP and honors clases. It might not finacaly (it depends on your goals in life) but you'll be able to do what you want. Every door is open to you while it's not for them. At-least it will be ahrder for them.

Ozy, it's probably best to do what I do, show enough smarts to show off, but don't do some of your homework, that way they "know" you're not prepared for the hard classes.

I'm actually in college though, and I didn't feel burned out. Granted I ended up totally bombing my japanese exam, but eh, whatja gonna do.
By the power of greyskull, I'm not sure I believe that.
Great Ozy, then you should see my school. Right now I'm in all the advanced classes that I could take, except for honors English. The advanced classes do easier, and less work than the normal ones. It makes no sense really...

I wouldn't mind the advanced classes so much if it weren't for the easier ones (please don't tell me that that made no sense, I know it didn't). It's funny because each year, as the classes get harder, more and more people that got B's and C's in honor's classes drop down to college prep and general classes and get all A's, then they brag about how little work they do. There's a LOT of hostility between the honors students and those who dropped to college prep; it's actually pertty funny. People who always took college prep classes say that they do just as much work as the honors students, while those who dropped down say that the workload is about 10 times lighter. It's because of this that the O&M story with the G.S.T. exams was one of my favorites. My state's gone test-happy, and the 35 of us left in honors are pretty much pounded on to try and help the rest of the school's pathetic averages. I guess in the end I still get the satisfaction that one day I'll own their a$$es. What was that one strip where Stephan tells Avery "I'm going to be SO picky about how you pump my gas"...^0^

I would just like it stated that this strip has just converted my old high school philosophy teacher to O&M. She is going to read through the archives at some point over her break. The reference to Kant is what put it over the top. I also got an english teacher and a couple of the students there as well! For whatever reason, i made a random visit to my old school, and stayed for two hours! i really confused my sisters when they saw me talking with said english teacher!
