Um, I don't count this as making fun of Jefferson. Fun with him, perhaps.
I wanted to expand on the strip's joke, but I'm awfully ignorant of modern slang and couldn't think of anything good with an S that was neither capitalized nor at the end of the word. Altho we'd better hope that the modernized Declaration doesn't say that the king "sucked."
FWIW, a friend who recently toured Monumental Washington tells me that famous documents like this are faded to illegibility in places, thanks largely to camera flashes. They are now given very little light.

I could make a Constitution joke here, but I won't.
I realized today that this has to be one of the longest strings of connected storylines in the history of Ozy and Millie. We've been segueing from the Ambassador's appearance to Millie's annoyance techniques to collecting the aid package to iambic pentameter slams to Llewellyn building the windmill to the D.C. trip/the neighborhood association's protest seemingly without a plotless strip in between.

I don't think it's that uncommon, especially in this forum. I'm sure if you asked about you'll find more people who read it or have a passing interest.
