Everything is of interest to somebody.

Background details are those little things that most readers of Ozy and Millie can miss easily, and the subtle nature of background gags makes it easy to put anywhere in the the strip to suggest that yes, that the events of a certain storyline have made possible and necessary this otherwise preposterous sign, and that anyone venturing near the couch will be reminded of it.

I did notice the sign upon the first time i read that strip. Backgrounds are an essential part of any comic, even if the background is blank. They help to give a desired atmosphere, and add a certain personality to the world you get to see.

As for the strip itself, it seems to prove the point that one persons garbage is another persons treasure. "Really! care to share?"

tavis- where'd you get your avatar? its not the sign that appeared in the strip- that has two vertial peices of tape, not one horrizontal one like you have.
oh, i just realized that the shape and handwriting were different- you made your own, didn't you?

anyways here's llewellens sign

I just realized that the sign is written in Llewellyn speak text... so does Llewellyn write in the manner he speaks? i didn't think you could tell a voice from their handwriting... thats an odd (and funny) little thing, isn't it!

The "Caution: Vortex" sign appears in several other strips, though I'm having trouble finding any of them at the moment.

The vortex sign may outshine the strip, but I still think that particular strip is funnier than the norm, even without the sight gag.

Oh, and I'll simply theorize that that the tape to the first sign lost it's stickiness and fell off, falling behing the couch. Rather than get it back and stick it back up there with new tape, Ozy decided to creat a new sign altogether. And Ozy and Lewellyn happen to have different methods on how to put up tape.

Doctor Fred's theory makes sense to me, since there was at least one strip between '99 and '02 where the Llewelyns' couch had no sign above it.
