Maybe he doesn't really need a car to carry his stuff. His pockets might have trans-dimensional doors to the land on the other side of the couch. Anything he puts there will fall through to somewhere there, it might explain why he keeps losing things.

which reminds me: If the couch leads to an alternate dimension, I wonder where the refrigerator leads... And it would explain why he keeps a baseball bat in the cupboard.
