In science a theory is a hypothesis that has been put through several tests, has lots of evidence for it, and has little evidence against it.

Mathematics is the only science that requires proof, every other field of science relies on evidence. New discoveries are constantly being made in these areas (especially in biology) that may push the evidence in that direction.

All but a few scientific laws were made before, during, or immediately after the Enlightenment, when it was believed that natural laws existed for everything, including morality. Thus, all new scientific discoveries were deemed to be laws that couldn't be broken. This practice gradually fell out of favor, and was finally buried with the discoveries of the early 20th century.

Boy, am I slow. Only today do I realize that the absence of gravity turns Ozy and Millie into my kind -- flying foxes.

When I hear the phrase "Intelligent Falling", Douglas Adam Springs to my mind.
Maybe the "edge" of the universe has such a curvature that everything therein is attracted to it?
So...you're saying that the Universe is a giant Centrifuge? o.o

That...makes me happy beyond belief .
Sure, I'll come. But just yesterday, I altered one of my unused genes slightly, so I am now no longer a member of the human race - so even if all humans die, I shall escape!
Better take care not to hurt yourself then! Genocide is a terrible thing...

Yes...but, that "Onion" article came out several months after I put forward the theory of intelligent falling myself. :)

The online magazine "Gelf" did an article about this, complete with a response from the Onion:

Hate to burst your bubble but there is a Calvin and Hobbes on the subject.

I don't remember such a C&H episode, and I've read them all more than once. Think you can find it somewhere?

Doesn't count. Calvin has had lots of gravity problems ("bouncing off the walls," parents forgot to pay the gravity bill, personal gravity reversed polarity), but in none of them does he declare that the theory of gravity has been debunked.
