Idealistic Rallying Cry

The joke seems to make much more sense when you see that Locke's rallying cry fits the true goal of a protester: getting the attention of others. It's a matter of filtering what college students consider important and passing it on to the masses beyond the hedges.

Among the reasons colleges get to have the privilege of being the locations of such protests is because colleges are filled with young people just opening up to the world. They have the youthful energy to protest and the freedom and time to put off some homework to root for the things they believe, and they have access to a campus filled with peers. With that in mind, it is not at all hard to believe how easily a protest can form, and yet it is also not so hard to believe that a campus with its unique access to the world (since internet connections were around long before it became widespread, its inhabitants can relentlessly consume world news and net culture)

Anyway, my point is, I've almost always had my doubts about the effectiveness of protests held on campuses, and many other protests in general because too much of it was about the selfish need to be heard, and not so much about the facts motivating the protest.

As far as college protesting, watch the movie PCU. It's a great movie. I love this strip just for Locke's expressions in the 2nd and 4th panels. The 2nd panel is great because they're staging a military coup, yet Locke, as you are reminded, is really just a 10-year-old (in our terms) kid who wants attention (much like college students. Wow, I just connected college students and 10-year-olds. The local collegates shall hunt me down soon enough for that). And the 4th panel with Locke going "Arr" and his expression in perfect.

I didn't even see this one on the front page (probably because of timezone issues). Tuesdayevening 22:00 or so GMT +1 the mondaystrip was still on, and now (wednesday 15:00 GMT +1) the wednesday one is already up
