This comparison (or contrast is a rather more appropriate term) was made by DCS in his live journal to illustrate how suprised he was to see how Ozy (and all the others) have evolved in drawing style over the years. Unless I'm mistaken (and I don't think I am,) Ozy has never worn a red vest and tie in the strip before. This pic on the right (as DCS has already mentioned) is a very recent creation that will be featured in the first of the new strips as Ozy and Millie will be brougt out of hiatus. I believe I have said this already before somewhere in the 'Current Strips' section, but I feel it is worth saying again: I told you so! Nyah nyah! *does bragging victory dance* Poo-poo on those of you doubting Josephs. I'm hearing distresses that there never will be new strips and the O&M site will eventually go down and it makes me want to go Tazmanian Devil on their hydes. But let's make this a moment of celebration! This will be the first time there's been a new strip since this community started (unless it has started a lot earlier than I thought.) It's a time for joy, a time for happiness, a time for other mischelaneous synonyms of joy. Yes, this will be a fine moment indeed.

Great! I agree with Sabre, I like the older style. The style that's being used in the reruns now.

I'm glad you all agree. for a minute there I was worried it was just me.
(I preffered the 98 style to the 2000 style.)
(dont hurt me!)

definately prefer the classic. The one with the tie just looks... well downright scrawny

That's what I thought. Didn't think D.S. would totally change his outfit.
But, this is great! I actully just recently discovered Ozy and Millie, back in September of 2003 I think, and I never raelly got to see any new strips. So I'm excited!

he looks too skinny and posh in that new outfit. It looks like he has trouble breathing! <img src='

Well, the new style has cleaner lines, but it also looks like Ozy's been fasting too much. ::gives Ozy a sandwich:: I liked the late 2000 style myself. The early was was good, too, but I prefer the strips look right after the style change. Looking at the 2003 strips, you could already see the characters getting thinner. I also think the newest style is slowly making Ozy and Millie look less and less like kids. The strip's about childhood, so I don't know why characters look like they're aging.

well, growing up IS a normal part of childhood. And perhaps Ozy is growing more and more cynical with age. I made this prediction before in a different strip. So far it seems true. eventually, he could become one of those really uhh... PO'd-about-something anime heros. whad'ya call them?

...could, not might, not will, just saying "could". alright?

People change with time, some more than others(Didn't I use to never cuss, like, 4 years ago?) People change, David changes, Ozy and Millie will change with time. It keeps things exciting. So far they have shown some aging, so I see no reason to think Millie will never get to drive legally, although it would be a shock if a driving tester actually deemed her safe for the roads. I think their high school years will be full of exciting things. But first, junior high. One step at a time.
I, too, prefer the cuteness of the early strips, and have noticed a loss of cuteness in the past years, but, I've been overlooking how it's also looking more intelligent, and I'm sure that's what Simpson is aiming for. His strip IS intelligent, so the artwork should match the feel of the strip too. It's really a matter of what you expect. I used to expect cuteness, but when the focus drew further and further away from cuteness, I eventually(just a few days ago) changed my expectations, and it's working!
Also, yes, Ozy's tie IS just for that one comic strip. He's just dressing up for his re-appearance.
