Misspelled?

Was just rereading O&M, and I came across the April 8th, 2003 comic.

For fun, I looked up the 4 words:

Felicia's words were pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, which is the longest word to ever appear in the Oxford English Dictionary, and bathysiderodromophobia, which is an irrational fear of subways and metros.

Millie attempted dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, or DDT. She missed the last "O". Her next word was floccinaucinihilipilification, which is the longest non-technical word in the OED. She missed the "LI" before "fication".

Just wondering if it was intentional.

Doesn't seem to be. The whole joke is supposed to be that they're both spelling these insanely long words and then Millie blows a stupidly simple one.

Besides, it's pretty easy to mis-type a word that long.

As a more convoluted and more unlikely explanation, we could say Millie was getting nervous and was just lucky Ms. Sorkowitz didn't catch the errors in the longer words. So she thinks "I'd better not forget any letters this time" right before she spells "dog" with an extra 'o'.

Actually, DCS hand-writes the comic text.

And 5hfifty, I'm surprised to see you, the site founder, so critical of an O&M strip.

End the sentence there, and it is also true, kids.

Perhaps there are multiple different spellings to those words and the dictionary could have used the most common one.

I once lost a class spelling bee in elementary school for spelling color the European way: c-o-l-o-u-r

That's messed up right there.

THAT throws me off SOOO MUCH when I'm doing webdesign.
Not to mention I get funny looks from Mother when I have "flavour" and "favourite" etc... in my papers.

What's his website administration skills, phpBB administration skills, web coding skills, or initiative in making the first/best O&M community have to do with how critical he's allowed to be?
