Does liking furry art/animals make you a furry? I was wondering to clarify something.

no. For instance, I am not a furry.

Oh, that's good to know.

I disagree, it depends on how one defines furry. By the definition that I and most other furs use, an interest in fur art and animals would make you a furry. You don't have to go to conventions or have a fursona to be a fan of furry art, just like you don't have to go to conventions or...do anime things?...to be an anime fan.

If you don't want to call yourself a furry, that's cool, labels are entirely up to you. However, don't be suprised if someone does consider you to be a fur.

Well, I don't want to have the stigma that the media has placed on the whole genra of stuff.

I don't want the stigma either, but that doesn't mean I won't wear the label with pride. It's up to us to (re)claim "furry" for dignified usage, much as "queer" no longer need be derogatory.

I think the easiest thing to do is to brake it down in to classes for example
CLASS A FURRY someone who often wares a fur suit or clip on tail even thou he is not around other furrys

CLASS B FURRY someone who wares a fur suit or clip on tail around other furrys

CLASS C FURRY goes to conviction

CLASS D FURRY has a fursana

CLASS E FURRY Likes hanging out with furrys

CLASS F FURRY likes Furry art

I just put this togather in the last 5 min so I did not try t get every thing

edit: I would fix the spelling...but you'll already know i cant spell so whats the point *beats word with a hammer*

Class D/C (coincidence? )

The reason it's between the two is that I've never been to a convention, but I want to.

Well, I don't think anyone really wants any sort of stigma, but that doesn't stop many from being active in the furry community. I give a "furry is not what you've seen on TV" speech about once a week to someone, and most people say "Oh, that's cool, so what sort of critter are you?" or something equally supportive.

Don't let the media stop you from enjoying something you're interested in. I've been a fur for about two years, but interested in the art for much longer than that.

Oh, Holyman, your list excludes those with spiritual connections to the furry world, and artists, and writers

awww...Furries shouldn't have convictions...

Convictions? Conventions? Why are those two words so similar?

I don't consider myself furry. I read furry comics, but don't necessarily like them any better (or any worse) than the non-furry variety. After all, lots of people went to see Spirited Away, yet that doesn't make them otaku.

As for who I hang out with, well... if they're nice, does it matter?

I must be a class "F" then. I like furry art but I've never done any of the other things. I like a few furry comics such as Akaelae and I'm starting to get into Roomies. You know I was talking to my patrol leader and somehow I brought up furries. Needless to say he had no idea and he jokingly said "I don't want to know about any of your fantasies," Then i explained to him what a furry was and I pointed at our Jambo shirts which had a bald eagle furry on it . Of course I didn't even mention theres a subculture behind it. I remember the days when I could say the word "furry" and think of something hairy. But now everytime I hear it I think of anthro animals first. I even call my dogs "fluffy" rather than "furry" even though our male dog (Sparky) has short hair. And yes Sparky's name does have something to do with Dominic Deegan. Basically hes named after a cat . Though I didn't want to use the name Sparks but I actually heard my mom call him Sparks one time .
