I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but on the cast page of the O&M site, I saw something that caught my eye.
When the pictures are loading, there's text where the pictures are.
If you missed some of the text, just right click the picture and look at the properties. It has the text there.

Yeah, you mean those quotes from the characters. I did notice that.

Hehe, character quotes. I suppose for people on non-graphical browsers, such quotes are usable to identify characters!

Then again, it begs the question 'so how do such people read the strip?' and for that, I think we have to turn to Zen.

I'm reading too much into it but it's FUN. ^_^

Oh yes.. that alt-text is an HTML standard, but newer issues of Netscape and Mozilla have only been using them when images are not loaded or are unavailable for some reason. IE (and the Netscape 4 I have on the desktop computer) actually shows them to users as a tooltip when you roll the mouse over the image. I don't know why the feature is not implemented by Netscape anymore, but I think a title attribute is available for them so that such a tooltip functionality can be implemented for links and other object types.

While it's not meant to be implemented, on random instances it... Works o_O;

For me anyway

Like I said, there is also a title attribute that can be applied to links that allows that tooltip to occur. You might want to look at the source code for the page next time you see that and look for that tooltip text. You will probably find it as an attribute on the image (img) or anchor (a) tags.

EDIT: In fact, you can find many instances of it here on this discussion board. Many of the buttons have active titles, as well as the "Posted" link above every post. On the main forum page, there are titles on the "Last Post In:" image and link. Note the arrows take you to the last post while the link after it takes you to the first unread post in the topic. If the tooltip on the image says "Last Post", that's the alt-text taking over. If it says "Go to the last post", it's the title of the anchor tag producing the tip.

The point was to actually read them, not try to act like you know more about what's going on. <img src='
