Define Cynical store
I think we should set a percentage amount to go to the site and a nother percentage amount to go to the artist. cost = base price + site profit + artist profit. I think the site profit shoudl be 5% of the base price and the artist proofit be by discresion fo the artist but no more then 2% of the base price. Of course the artist to rtecieve any profit has to give soem perosnal information to one of the store administrators.

This would also leave the question of how the site finances would be handled. There is both a question of who will have authority to make decisions and where will the finances be held. I think any decisions shoudl of course be discused here but that the moderating/admin team shoudl be the decision makers. Maybe one vote for each and 5hfity breaks ties. I think polls could be used to gather forum snetamit but the mods/admins shoudl have the final decsions. As far as where it is housed I think somebody should set up a bank acount for the site. I'm not sure how this qualifies ina legal sense (a site store like this would be diferent from a personal store) but I can check what it would be under US federal and Indiana law. We woudl have to decide who actully owns the site structure and thus who actuly owns the funds (this is diferent then who makes decisions on the funds).

Dude... there were so many typos and not enough jokes/resting places that I'm completely lost. I expect that sort of thing from books, not from internet sites.

Edit: Dude... I just said dude!!! DUDE!!!

I suppose finances could be handled by 'appoint someone as treasurer, sort out artist payments and etc via paypal'.

But I see you've already got the bulk of the work done. As for percentages, what percentage of the price of any whatever do cafe-press take? Because that will effect things somewhat (since the figures of 5% and 2% given earlier would indicate that cafe-press get 93% and that's just plain painful.)

Since the merchendise sold should be (and currently is) specific to the site rather than to O&M itself, I'd have thaught 50/25/25% of the profits with the 50 going to the site, the twenty fives going to the person who submitted the idea, and the second 25 going to Simpson as a friendly 'keep up the great comics' kinda deal, where the person who submitted the idea/art/whathave you being able to split their 25 further as they see fit (as mentioned previously in a place on this thread that I can't find now), would be a nice split. (Yes, I did get lost somewhere along the lines of this parragraph)

Now, onto the content of the store, as a general rule I only wear dark backed t-shirts/shirts, is it possable to get cafe-press to do those or not (think royale blue through to black when I say 'dark')? Also, as for the 'unless you want to pay $5 a month, you need to have one design per type of item' thing, this can be got around by rotating designs, say, every couple of months.

And when you say 'you can do cds through cafe-press now' do you mean 'audio cds' or 'computer cds'?

I don't want to make the shirts to expensive and cafe-press has prety high base prices. The giving Simpson money idea is good. Since the ase prices are set I think a percentage of the base prices is the way to go. maybey 5%/2%/2% with the orer you have. If we make enough money off of this we could pay for more then one type of option if we deciode togo that route.

Poked in the Iye.. that's bad.

Anyway, as far as I am concerned, the whole thing about selling stuff on the cafepress thing is alright with me, although I would like to reserve the right to sell T-shirts that say "I spelled Tavis' name right and all I got was this stupid T-shirt" elsewhere if I so choose (which is unlikely, but really means a lot). I suppose the proceeds from the sales of any of these shirts would have to depend on its source.

For example, the "Tavis" t-shirts are mainly about me and have nothing to do with Define "Cynical" except that this is one of many places I tried the free t-shirts thing.. but I have no problem with Define "Cynical" trying to sell such shirts since I certainly haven't gone through the trouble of it myself. Anything I get from it would be plus. On the other hand, anything based on stuff created here will need to be handled differently, as would anything based on Ozy and Millie. Instead of quoting straight percentages, we'll need something meaningful for each item.

Of course, I don't know right now what I'm trying to say.. while preparing this post, the ISP disconnected me twice, and it is getting on my nerves.

There are currently only two T-shirts. I think we can do better than that. Of course, I've never made a T-shirt, so I guess I don't know.

I'm working on a design or two now, iyestorm, for some shirts. and this may be food for thought:

there are suggested retail values in cafepress.

Look here for suggested prices

[edit] ok, that link isnt working.... i'll find another way of getting the info here...[/edit]
Tavis: Javascript links tend not to work.. I think I found the correct URL.

key note: if the person dealing with the money lives in the united states, and there are more than $600 in earnings, it effects the tax's of whoever deals with the money. I don't know quite how it would work if the money was being sent out to other people, though. thats something that would need to be looked into.

We should only sell stuff that's relavant to DC and dosn't incude any O&M material directly in it, like the two shirts we have now. And I would rather go with a set of streight percentages bacuse otherwise we would be squabaling over every item that's sold trying to get teh numbers perfect. A-lot of poeple have diferent ideas here and when people start talking about money things could very easaly get tense. The smart thing to do is set up a system that has a minimal amount of leway when actuly asinging a price for each item but is still fair.
