Let's help D. Simpson with syndication
OK, here is how things fare.

I gave the FNP a call, and spoke witht he representative I was told too, however the security guard had given me the wrong contact. figures, but i persist. In any case, the powerpoint may have been in vain. The method of choosing what comics get in is first done without anyone present. again... figures. Well, what needs to be done, is to snail mail printed versions of the strips for primary review. If the editor likes it, he will get in contact with the proper people.

Since I still want to carry this out, i will get printed versions of the strips, and mail them to the editor. I will also include a 3 1/2 inch floppy with the power point presentaion on it, so that at least there is a chance of it being put to use.

The representative DID say, however, they were looking very hard for a good political cartoonist to create comics for them, and turning up with a handfull of nothing. She handles that section of the paper, and said that I should call her back if he is interested. If all comes to all, perhaps if simpson started creating political cartoons for the FNP, then he'll have one leg in the door for O&M.

There is still hope, though. I press on!

*Amended* also, I'm thinking about getting a petition going and sending that as well, but I don't know how that would look to the editor without speaking to him prior to that. I could certanly get a good number of people to sign. Either that, or a survey with a large sample. A properly pieced together survey may do wonders.
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.
I doubt Simpson would want to do only political cartoons. The editor will probably look at them. It ill basicly be up to how they strike him. That probably depends a lot on his mood at the time he reads it :-/. That's the way it works. It's good that you are doing this. Keep at it.

I think the petition idea might work. I know the Washington Post every August runs test comics and asks their readers to vote on what comics to get rid of and what to keep. You could try usinga a petition to get the post to run O&M during this tril period. It depends on how meny people you can get to sign by the time you send in the prints. That has to be your judgment call.

Survay might work but from their perspective it's just a kid asking peopel questions. You have no authority. It probably wouldn't hurt but I would be surprised if it wasn't ingored. Stick to the petition. Personaly I don;'t realy falow survays. It's so easy to get misleading results with them. You can create a survay that fallows all the rulls and still points towards a pre-determined result.

Ok, here's my thought... If a non-personal approach is going to work, we would still need to knock the editors socks off with the vast greatness that is O&M. I had been thinking a great deal about it, and the thought came to me to just print out the slides into paper form, and create a small binder with a bunch of strips besides those i've already included. Two or three strips, i feel, should be put on the cover of the binder as an attention grabber. Next, as he looks at the strips, it will develop into his short term memory, and if interested enough, long term. (this is where psyc is comming in handy, actually! the sensory memory lasts for a fraction of a second, aminly to get attention. Short term memory can hold up to about 7-8 items, and lasts about 20 seconds unless other measures are taken to remember. Long term, once you get it in there, will last for a good while.)

As for the washington post idea in august... thats an awesome idea! If i run a survey, I will get it approved by whatever newspaper before carrying it out. A petition idea might work even better, now that i think about it, but the other ideas are still out there.

Shortly, I'll post a list of comics already chosen to be submitted. After that, or even before, if you think another would go well, Post a link to it in this thread!. I think a larger pool of people can select a better group of strips than just a few.

The ones i can remember off the top of my head are named
- "Avery" Regular Guy
- "Playing "doctor""
- "Mishapen Blob Man"
- "Sunday's Best"
thats all thats coming to me now. I'm still at school. Oce i'm home, i cant garuntee i'll stay awake. To give you an idea of how tired i am, I drank a full 2 litres of cafinated soda today, and STILL mannaged to fall asleep in the library before class. Must not have been as cafinated as I would have needed<_< . I couldn't sleep last night, sor whatever reason (doodling... oops). (still managed to do quite well on a physics test, although a stupid math error on my part cost me an A. Got a B, but still... urg, so close....)

Maybe I'm biased, because the storyline includes the first strip I saw, but I like the "Ozy has other friends" storyline starting here.

We're all pulling for you, FoxChild.
Well, my computer wasn't working last night, so I decided to kill some time and grab one of the books off my shelf. Of course, since it was from a book I can't give you the time :\. It was the Llwellynland Dream Vacation strips. Looking through these I noticed pretty much every character appears in the storyline except for a few more minor characters and Locke.
Anami: Sex with a giant, black scorpion seems fun.

I'd suggest newer strips. They're all good, but most of them are based off of the characters' personalities or old political reference. Somebody new to O&M, especially someone who is considering to run the strip, would like to see the newer strips and storylines, or at least some classics like the blue string or bubbles strips.

Sorry for the lack of links; I know I'm not being helpful, but I'm in a rush.
Still mostly here.
actually, i'm a bit ahead of you on that one erik. I do have some level of foresight with things! Perhaps this weekend, i'll try and compile everything into a binder, catalog it, and let you all know whats what. This is assuming some major distraction doesn't pop out of the ground with a pick axe, or something, telling me that resetting is bad.
