You know what else really bothers me? Semicolons. I mean really. It's pretty obvious that they only exist to make me angry.
Wasn't there a "Seinfeld" where Elaine breaks up with a guy because he didn't use an exclamation point when she thought one was called for?

I had a creative writing prof who said not to use exclamation points except possibly after interjections. Just imagine if I showed her an issue of <i>Captain Marvel</i>, where no sentence ends with a period.

Please, they have more uses than colons. Colons really only have one use in writing; semicolons have like, two uses.

Colons are useful in ratios and some computer codes, but you probably don't count that as "writing."
