I did it at my high school, every computer in the city's entire school district (eight buildings, almost 20,000 computers) had the homepage set to www.ozyandmillie.org for a day

Hmmm...I don't have access to the school's network, but a friend of mine can gain administrative access, mess with the servers, and can/has hacked the nework. Maybe I can convince him to do it for me.

Liminal seems most effective. It actually requires your attention. Superliminal is never taken seriously, and cubliminal is often missed/innefective, but in a case like that where you actually have to read to get the message, it stands out more.

Well, I certainly didn't miss cubliminal.

The problem with subliminal messaging is that you're not really meaningfully getting people interested in O&M - you're just forcing them to read it whether they like it or not. And you'd need a lot of subliminal messages to achieve even that.

The best way is just to tell as many people as possible, constantly.

the really big problem with subliminal is its borderline illegal. If u flash it at them then they can't help but realise it, whereas they can choose to ignore a whole TV ad for, say, a power drill. It could be deemed as violation of human rights.

Advertisers (Kablammo Cola for this example) would pay some movie producer to have a lead character drink the cola in the movie in such a way as to leave the Kablammo trademark plainly visible or maybe sneak in the phrase "It's Paparrific" somewhere. It gives advertisers what they want by forcing audiences to see their product because it's blended in with the movie the audience is trying to watch.

Another fun thing in uk law with this. While product placement isn't illegal as such, it's illegal for any emphasis to be made on said product placement. And you can't name brands in gameshow prizes. (has to be 'a games console' never 'an x-box', for example)

It's a fuzzy line, actually, over here as to what's illegal and what isn't when it comes to product placement, although it should be noted that the thing has been going on since the 70s (The Dalek Invasion of Earth movie features advert posters for Sugar Puffs, for example)

However, product placement has started getting into gaming, not called product placement as such but the principle is the same. An early example is the featuring of Red Bull in Worms 3D as a health restorative item.
