Very good that is, Doog! It looks like your text is the original. No one who didn't know the original would be able to tell.

As for the points, no idea.
Calvin once said (the one from the comic, not the philospher) that he would be successful by finding a job where everyone is worse in it then him, so he wouldn't have to work hard.
Of course Hobbes replied that that might take hard work.

Friends is alright to me, but Seinfeld beats it with a stick.

Schulz today. I took a very indirect route home so I could listen to the whole thing in the car.

I've often said that almost winning the Charles M. Schulz College Cartoonist Award the final year he was on the panel (his seat is now held by Scott Adams) was one of the greatest honors of my life. Charles Schulz approved of Ozy and Millie. The thought still amazes me.

And what a humble, classy human being Schulz was. Never said a harsh word in that interview or any other I've seen; spoke honestly and clearly; seemed to recognize his good fortune while never coming off as falsely modest. What's more, he reaffirmed in that interview that he would never, ever hire an assistant or let anyone besides him draw his strip, under any circumstances. It was an expression of who he was; he couldn't farm that out.

Hearing him inspires me; it stirs my love of this art form all over again.

I'm of the opinion that rerunning old Peanuts strips now is a mistake; give some younger cartoonist that slot. I love Peanuts, but it's not as if you can't find the books if you want to reminisce.

I say that in part because I want the space. I've said several times lately, I believe, that I feel my love of cartooning, and my desire to get paid for it, with a renewed fierceness (if that's the word) lately. I'm deep in the middle of creating a new strip to submit to the syndicates, and I'm very happy with it. I haven't done this since 1997-98, when Ozy and Millie was being born; I'd forgotten how exhilarating it is.

Mind, I'm not really prepared to share the results with the public, just yet, if indeed I ever do. It was different when O&M was new and I wanted it seen by as many people as possible--this led in the end to O&M becoming the web-based strip you know and hopefully like today, but back then I was trying (relatively ineptly) to become a syndicated cartoonist, and looking to the internet for a bit of helpful feedback and ego-stroking. These are very different times and I'm a very different artist.

Point? I have no point. But this is where my head is this afternoon.

We're getting there. This is getting exciting.
