I was laughing after the Halloween one. Nice work, you'd fit in here quite well.

That's absolutely perfect, Waffle!

Audio Quality: 10/10
Voice Exchange Quality: 10/10
Character Enthusiasm: 10/10

You're in! Now just pick a role and we'll definitely add you!
Wow!

ANY role?

Well, you may not be able to pull off the role of Millie... so maybe not ANY character ;)

I still want to hold auditions for most of the roles that we'll need over at the Voice Acting Alliance message boards... especially for the female characters, since there seem to be a lot of girls over there. Apart from the cooties, it's a pretty cool place to hang out.

however, do I have to keep stressing how we're not ready to cast yet? We still need to finish the script, too! In fact, I could use some help here, guys. Where'd all the writers go? I'd really like some critiques and rewrites of the draft I posted... people seem impressed with what I wrote, but I think that if we all worked together, we could make it even better. *hint hint*

Well, if Rooster's willing to try speeding up my voice a bit to see if it sounds fitting for any of the kids, I'd appreciate it.
Just a note - if you're going to have the voice sped up, speak slowly so that it won't sound like Chip 'n' Dale from the Donald Duck cartoons when it's finished but will actually be comprehensable and sound human-ish. I believe that's how they did the voices for Alvin and the Chipmonks...

...Hm. Saying that, maybe a method of increasing the pitch other than 'speeding up' might work better?

I was actually fooling around in Audacity last night, and I found that increasing the pitch by about 30% can make for a fairly good child's voice. Speeding it up just doesn't sound right at all.

Though I may just be imagining it...

That pitch thing does stuff to my voice so funny its impossible to describe. To bad none of it sounds useful

Well, my voice is almost always messed aroudnd with using just the pitch, never the tempo. For Avery, I just raise it up 17.6%.
I'm here, you just can't see me!

pitch shifting = not good. If ye voice be not fit for a child, then ye shan't play the part! savvy?

we shall just have to give the child roles to children or those of the female disposition. sorry, pitch shifting and I don't get along very well... just doesn't sound very good.

Neither does females playing children, unless they're good at manipulating their voices.

Don't be affraid to play with synthesisers. Some of the greatest voices in the history of science fiction have been achieved via a Ring Modulator.

I'm also in two minds about your concept of casting outside of fandom. On the one hand, yeah, would be more professional. On the other, what's the point in a fan project if it's not being done from those within the fandom itself? As soon as you cast outside, it... reduces the fan-project-ness of it.

Off topic - but I like the avatar.

Faux Pas, I presume?

hehe, faux pas rox my fox sox.

Well, I suppose we could only stick to those in the fandom, but that's presuming that no one in the VAA would know of Ozy and Millie, which I'd like to believe is unlikely. And, in the interest of what's best for the cartoon, I'd be willing to pick people who didn't only post at the forums. savvy? but, who knows what will happen. If we can't find anyone to fill in the roles of the female characters here, we'll need to find someone SOMEwhere.

and regarding the pitch shift thing... I'd have to hear it to believe it, seriously =) no offense... it's just that I'm really picky. and a LOT of woman play child roles... it's actually more common than having a child act.

EDIT- and, from the beginning, I didn't mean to imply that only fans could work on this thing. I really want what's best for the project. I'd me more psyched to see something really well made, than to see something and think "Aww, that's cute because it was made by the fans".

...but maybe I'm taking the whole thing too seriously anyways. I have a tendancy to do that  just smack me away when I do that.

*painfully fighting the urge to smack you just for kicks...*

Like you said before, we all need to drop the voiceacting thing for right now. did you post the script draft here yet, or did I miss it?

I'm aware of this. I'm also aware that those voiced by children tend to sound more like children than female voices. (Example - Recess used child voice talent). There are people who can tell the difference.
EDIT- and, from the beginning, I didn't mean to imply that only fans could work on this thing. I really want what's best for the project. I'd me more psyched to see something really well made, than to see something and think "Aww, that's cute because it was made by the fans".
I'm simply saying that, as an unprofessional project that's being done for fun, while quality is desirable, I can't help wonder if it's more desirable to have as good a quality as we can or more desirable to have a feeling of ultimate ownership, as a community? Both are valid directions, I suppose, I'm just throwing this up before it spirals into something you didn't originally intend.

High quality is nice. "This is neat because my little community did that without any help from outside" is also nice. (a collective form of the individual "This is neat because I did this without any help from outside, basically). Considering I'm thinking that any animation of this nature would mainly entertain us, I can't help but wonder if the highest quality theoretically obtainable from an amateur project is the right nice to persue?

Well, have we decided on a basic storyline, yet?
