.png works well. And jpg isn't too bad, if you use about 75% compression on the bitmap. The poor jpgs tend to be about 20%.

I think.

My current desktop is a cute print by Marci McAdam, Photoshop-ed to include a dark blue sidebar for my icons, the title of the print, and my usual "FJL 2004" signature in case anyone else wants to use it.

View it here (1500kb JPG, 1600x1200)

I still have Win 98 and am not using a background picture at all, just a deep red colour i picked when customizing my desktop on a day i was bored. I have no idea if it's possible to get a picture of my desktop with 98 but it's not interesting anyway so it's not important.

Also seeing the amount of icons people have on their desktop staggers me, all my desktop icons fit in one column on the left hand side. As you can guess i don't play any games or download much stuff.

My desktop is currently a picture I took at Fright Fest. It looks like something from a horror movie.
No O&M desktop. :-(
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

I used to use a "You're weird." "I know." wallpaper but then I changed it to a very nice fang shot.

I decorated my desktop with a dark purple and avoided using a background image, but I have considered a couple images to use from time to time. I only have eight icons on the desktop, four rows in two columns, because that way they match up with the arrangement in the Desktop "Quick Launch"-style toolbar. Since my desktop is plain purple, I thought I'd let you see my "Local Stuff" folder and the customized SendTo.

You can make a screen capture by using PrintScreen (or Alt+PrintScreen if you just want the current window); you need only paste it into Windows Paint and save the bitmap to make it a file. Once there, you can open it in some photo editor and convert the image to whatever you want.

EDIT: Hm.. Display seems to have dithered where it shouldn't. *uses PhotoShop 5.0 LE*

Sadly, no O&M, but I love my desktop enough to share it with you all.

My Desktop.

The background was stolen from Phoxphyre's own website, but I haven't seen any of his old backgrounds up since, so I'm glad I grabbed it when I did! And thanks, Phoxphyre!
