Why are people so damn snobby about Celsius?

A place to talk about anything (that doesn't belong in the other forums).

There are temperature snobs? What the hell?
That which does not kill me, cripples me for life.

But anyway, I'd like to propose a new unit of standard measurement, which is a kind of mesh of the new and the old. The same principle as metric, but all measurements would be proportional to each other by a scale of twelves, which will go hand-in-hand with our adoption of the base-12 number system.

Since Jason lives in a country that uses the metric system, I've been learning to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius by guesstimation.
Pshuh, but more often than not I describe the temperature to you in Fahrenheit!
You guys have such interesting conversations. <3

What the Ffffahrenheit? Guys, chill out, it's not cool to contest so hotly with one another. Someone needs to be fired. Just give me the cold, hard facts about temperature, ok? If that happens, that would be the icing on the cake that is this topic.

(count all the temperature related puns and win!)
gforce422 is awesome because:
-He made the absolute nicest comments about me in the other topic. I didn't respond to them yet, because I suck, but they are greatly appreciated! =D
-I would say he would also be a good runner up as one of the nicest people alive.
-He joined the IRC sometimes. But not enough, I say! Chat moar =D
-He is evidently only 18 year old but he could easily pass for 25. =D
-He is a drummer like *I* am and this in itself is cool.

A base-12 number system would be superior...

I think we can all agree that America has exceptional standards of measurement, exceptional fast food and exceptional dance moves.

ones as good as the other for me, both have consistently sized units, i know what they mean and its not a big deal to convert either way. i use whatever seems simpler at the time.

I too prefer Fahrenheit for measuring outdoor temperature mostly for familiarity's sake, while I fully understand its use in science. No snobbiness here.

the "problem" of the Fahrenheit stuff is (and that's really how most of us [European] think about it) that USA still wants to go her own way, without taking a look at the other.
It's like: "The rest of the world is using Celsius or metric system? Now F*ck them! We are the God damn USA! We use our own way to describe stuff!" I still wonder, why you don't have a own way to describe time and weight... and don't get on the idea to flame me down like a shack in summertime... I just presented you the general opinion over here about that fact... (the Kioto Protokol is another example of this opinion...)
