Years ago, my mother's then-neighbors had several cats and a kitten. One day the kitten was chasing one of the adults cats around their dining room table, and seeing this, the elder cat, who had difficulty walking, went up the the other cats and got between them, and snarled once at the kitten. The kitten never bothered the other cat after that.
