My thoughts:

Is anyone other than Raine going to get some character development? Or will this be a story where things just happen to Raine, and the characters have no other purpose than to do their job?

Whatever. I don't leash my dog anymore. All she wants to do is to be chased and be the center of attention. We stop bothering because we know she be back, like a good bitch should.

that's a good question. It will depend on how long of a story this "novel" is intended to be, and we have no reference point for that.

I imagine that simply, Raine hasn't gotten to any point in her life that's both worth going into extended detail and has a significant second character that really does stuff?

I thought the character of Jeff should have been more developed, as the scenes with him might have held more gravitas.

Also, I think DCS might want to read up more on graphic novels. Their chapters are not just two pages long...

BITCH?
It's less derogatory than "girl"...

This is starting to remind me of a furry version of The Naked Lunch.

When I saw the last two panels, all I could think was "OOOOOH BURNED".

I think through these incidents she's building the experience and opinions with which she'll come to terms with the place of animals and humans in the comic. Since that's the main theme of the story isn't it? This is all just HER character development so far.

I think if the comic was just a random series of "where things just happen to Raine" I'd be interested. But only because that way it could be more open to quirky incidents and humour, instead of the more serious vibe Dana is going for.
