Drawing from other boards...

Make a new skin, preferably something that rises above all grey. Blue theme preferably, since IPB buttons seem predominantly blue.

Many avatars cannot be uploaded, for some reason.

Remove the hyperlinks underlines at the table at the top. They look weird, especially with the table there as well.

Probably a personal preference, but this site - MystCommunity.com - which uses IPB as well, seems to have a better color theme.

Make more people moderators and admins as numbers go up.

Hmm... any more ideas? (No, I'm not trying to take over this board. These are just suggestions - take them as you will.
Yes, I am thoroughly aware my avatar is a whole lot more appropriate on a certain other community I visit. But I don't care. Now, what are you going to do about it?

"Make a new skin, preferably something that rises above all grey. Blue theme preferably, since IPB buttons seem predominantly blue."

Okay. I'll see about getting the default theme (which is what that MystCommunity.com site is using) back. Although this'll be the default.

"Many avatars cannot be uploaded, for some reason."

No avatars can be uploaded, and I have no idea why. I'm trying my best to fix the problem though. I should also make some sort of announcement about this, a lot of people are telling me about it.

"Remove the hyperlinks underlines at the table at the top. They look weird, especially with the table there as well."

I've tried, and I'll try again, but It's something to do with the CSS of the board header and my header clashing. I don't know.

Thanks for all your suggestions, great to know people are helping me make this a better place for you all.

I have a suggestion...how about a forum for questions for the admin/moderator? Maybe you already have that and I haven't looked deep enough yet (I just became a member today), but I have a couple of questions and don't know where to ask them.

Here's my questions:

1) Is DC Simpson a part of this group, and if so what is the screen name he goes by?

2) What is the home city/state/country of this site? I live in Colorado (USA), and I noticed that the times on the right side of the posts always seem to be early morning when it is night here. I suppose I could look at the time difference and figure out what part of the world this site started, but that would be too much work. Much easier just to ask.

(Speaking of MYSTcommunity... I hail from there, among other places *waves to dnwq*)

A couple of helpful things for you to possibly solve your problems, spoken from many moons of IPB experience:

1) As far as the underlined links go, there's a style declaration in the CSSthat defines global hypertext appearance... if you remove the "text-decoration: underline" bit it'll remove the underlines from pretty much all links on the board. If you just want to de-underline the banner links, you could create a new declaration set (say... a:link.nolines and the accompanying :active, :hover, and :visited declarations) with the style attribute "text-decoration: none", and then set your links in the banner to be .

2) Upload problems... only thing I can think of is that the board can't write to the uploads directory... make sure it's CHMODed to 777.

3) As far as skins go, I think adding a few more shades of gray to this gray scheme would help a lot, it's just a tad on the "too uniform" side. And as you said, there's always the possibility of allowing the IPB default skin as an option .

tree, there's an option in your control panel which I don't know if you've located yet, which allows you to set your own timezone. If it's still whacked after you do that, then there be problems .

All that tech stuff aside, you've got a nice site here, 5hfifty. Great start, hope it catches on .
