Hi all

I was wondering if it was possible to set up certain threads, or forums, to be completely excluded from post counts. The reason I mention this is that I know on most boards, there are a few members who like to have the highest post count out of anybody, so they spend a lot of time posting in the "testing" forums and things like that. And some people tend to be highly active in only one part of the board, while inactive just about everywhere else. While that's all well and good, I like to be able to look down the list and see who's been active on the board in general, without getting skewed results from one particular thread or forum.

For example, right now about 1/6 of the total posts on this board are in the 16-page "post about the person above you" thread, and some members have 50+ posts in that thread alone. As only about 10 members even *have* more than 50 posts, this means it's really hard to see who's active on the board aside from that particular thread.

Anyway... I know there will be times when I'll want to set up a thread that would be spam-heaven (for example, a "post the next line in this story" thread) and specifically exclude it from post-counts, so that people will post only if they want to contribute, and not just if they want to increase their post count. A thread like that is spam-bait, and perhaps by being able to mark it as a "no-postcount" zone, I could discourage spam and encourage real contributions...

Thoughts?

I think it's a pretty good idea. Possibility: set up a forum for games like the "poster above you" thread that has no effect on one's post count. Of course, I have no idea if that's possible ; just my two cents ($US).

I can understand what you mean. I've noticed high post counts already as if they grew over night I only post when I feel like I have something to say personally ^^;; But the "poster above you" thread this morning I checked and there were only 8 pages. Now I come home from school and it's twice that amount and it's just..whoa lol.

I'd have to agree, if it's possible, threads like that (post about the post above you) shouldn't effect the post count. It makes it hard to tell who the active members are, like me, I have 58 posts, but quite a lot of them are in that thread, all my other posts are just quick comments.

I'm not overly concerned with post count, but it's still nice to be able to see who the truely active members are.

I'm not really concerned about post counts, but I'll post in the post about the user above you thread if there's nothing else to post.
See?

I too have been a member of a forum where post count started so many spammers that the admin had to remove the post count under the avatar on the left hand side. The games forum should probably be excluded from post count. I post when i think i have a worthy contribution to the topic. The post count shouldn't be of any concern.

These spammers, sheesh! They're all just trying to show off the size of their... post count.

Games forum, and any other forums for idle talk, should be excluded. And the fact that they have been excluded should be well advertised.
Yes, I am thoroughly aware my avatar is a whole lot more appropriate on a certain other community I visit. But I don't care. Now, what are you going to do about it?
