I don't know if this will take off or even make it to the launch pad but here goes.

I've seen this topic used in other forums before and have found it to be an effective way of people getting to know each other. The general idea is simple: Describe yourself! Give as much or as little info about yourself as you feel comfortable with. Hobbies. work, roughly where you live etc.

I'll start:

Age 43
Gender: male

What do i do with myhself for 8 hours a day:
I work for St. Vincent De. Paul in Madison Wis. We operate sort of like Goodwill in that we take in donations from people (Electronics, clothing, etc.) and sell them in our stores to fund programs for the needy. Food pantry's shelters, etc. I work in the appliance department. We deal with almost anything (except toys) that have an elctrical cord attached. What we do is test and sometimes repair the items, clean them, price them, and ship them to our stores. There are 4 of us in this department with our ouwn areas of specialty. Since I'm the one that's computer literate I'm the one that gets to "play" around with the computers that get donated. I also work on Video game systems, (and my mother always questioned what good playing them as a kid was going to do for me), stereo equipment, speakers, lava lamps, water fountains (play with electricity and water at the same time!), vacuum tube radios, and then there is the weird stuff! I've been working there for 5 years now and I love it! I never know what's going to be waiting for me when I come into work the next day. A short list of odd items: Late 1950's Wurlitzer jukebox, a pair of 80's home pinball games, Spherical T.V. (JVC early 1970's), a 1900's foot operated organ (air powered), Electric Hair Grower (hand held, bought that one!),etc.

There are a couple of downsides to my job.
1) it can be dangerous since the vast majority of items donated do not work I have had a number of spectacular failures when testing (electric chainsaw that shot flames out of the vents for example).

2) I recieve a 25% discount of items that I buy much to the detriment of my paycheck at times.

Personal notes:
The decor of my apartment can best be described a semi-controlled chaos with a serious doasage of the strange. A general look around the room reveals in no particular order 3d light up guppy picture, at least 5 transformers, demolition orders for the planet earth (from a copy of hitchikers guide to the galaxy game by infocom), pickled shark in blue formaldahyde on the tv,a couple of water fountains, vectrix video game system (works), my computer with 6 inch diameter cooling fan mounted in the siade of the case,Lego robotics invention kit, and finally my latest addition an I-Cybie (robotic dog) that I have named "Bandit" after the dog from Jonny Quest.

I am a collector of really bad SF movies. I purposesly go for the stuff that is so bad that It's hilarious! Such bombs like, Kronus! raveger of worlds, Mars needs women! (try to say that one with a straight face),Masked Avengers (a run run shaw production),reefer madness (remastered to dolby surround sound,....why?),Batman the movie (the 1960's batman). I am also a fan of Godzilla (small collection), Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds, and some anime (mostly Bubblegum crisis, Robotech) (sorry haven't been keeping up with the anime scene in a long time).

And I finnally say unto thee....(whew!)

Aditional info that I forgot:
Name: Eugene Koberle
Height: 5'4"
Weight: An embarressing 240 (I'm working on it, but my metabolism isn't what it used to be)
Short description of my job "I plug things in and see if they catch fire or the Origional Plug and Pray!"

all about me in Q&A form...

How old are you? 23.
What do you do all day? I'm a graduate student in applied mathematics at the University of Washington, going for my PhD.
applied math? What's that? Well, it's the type of math where you spend a lot of time solving actual engineering problems, or developing methods to find approximate solutions and test the errors in numerical results. This is in contrast to theoretical math, where you spend a lot of time proving things about abstract metric spaces and topological manifolds.
Wow, that sounds like it's really boring. No, actually, it kicks tail. Plus, I get to wield a great deal of authority over a bunch of freshmen calculus students
What do you study? Mathematical biology -- especially relating to models of genetic drift and chaotic dynamics.
So what do you do for fun? Mostly I hang out with my wife, doing all sorts of stuff...
Wife? Wow! Wives are cool! Heck yeah. Mine especially.
Tell me about her. Well, she's pretty similar to me. She's almost finished her masters degree in mathematics (the theoretical kind). She studies geometry, and her advisor is considered the world's leading expert on polyhedra. Right now she's off of school, working at a thrift store (Value Village) hanging up clothes.
Is Value Village anything like St. Vincent De Paul? Well, both are thrift stores. Value Village tends to deal much more in clothing and toys, while St. Vincents tends to deal in much bigger things like furniture and appliances. I get pants at Value Village, and I got my couch from St. Vincent's.
So what's your wife doing working at a thrift store when she's almost got her masters degree in math? She wanted some time off from school, and the job really suited her. The lady who works next to her is kinda the same way -- she owns something like 6 houses and a copper-wire factory, but works at the thrift store because she likes it.
So how'd you meet your wife? Well, about 5 years ago, I was posting on a forum much like this one, only devoted to a video game (Descent) rather than a comic. And this girl was posting to the same forum, and a bunch of stuff happened that resulted in us dating, and eventually getting married.
An internet relationship? Isn't that dangerous? Not any more than your average relationship. In any relationship, you have to be committed to being honest, and you have to hope the other person is the same. The 'net is no different, really, except that you have to learn to read signals a little differently than IRL. Plus, I spent 2 summers living down the street from her before we actually got married, so it's not like we didn't know each other by then...
Where can I find out more about you? On our webpage, tomandcatherine.com. I guess that means you already know our real names...
So what do you and your wife do in your free time? Well, we play a lot of video games -- we're both big on Descent, and I play Freespace and she plays War3. Oh, and we own at Nethack
Isn't it illegal to hack? Um... you should click the link and figure out what Nethack *is* before you embarrass yourself asking these questions.
What else do you do? We spend a lot of time at church, or dealing with church-related things (we deal with the multimedia and stuff) and we also spend a lot of time studying theology and playing with Zome, which is the ultimate building toy.
Wow, you're really a nerd! I hope you meant that as a compliment.
So who'd you vote for? Gary Coleman. Just kidding. Actually I voted for Bush, and I'm voting for him again unless Alan Keyes is in the race. That's liable to get me shot 'round these parts, or at least made fun of, and I'll probably be called a warmonger before all is said and done. At which point I'll mention I'm a Mennonite, and throw everyone into confusion.
Good interview, man! Thank you.

I am a 26 year old male, living in Wheat Ridge, Colorado (USA), a small town just outside of Denver. I work as an EMT in the emergency room of a nearby hospital, and am also a volunteer firefighter/EMT for the local fire department.

For hobbies, I love to read Fantasy novels--Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, stuff like that. I'm also a writer (not published as of yet) of all kinds of stories, and I am working on a fantasy novel right now.

I live by myself and have a beagle named Misty.

Name: Brendan
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Hight: 6'1"
Hair color: brown
Eye color: Blue
Hobbies: Video games(including DDR), running, askign seemingly pointless questions(take a look at the 'Random Phylosophy-Physics' topic!), writing, drawing, wasting time at a computer, creating a computer game, making music.
I'm currently studying at a community college, transfering out soon. I'm going to the community college because i think its the smart thing to do, finantially mainly. I'm trying to lead a game production team, although unsuccesfuly right now due to time and budget constraints of college students, most of whom have jobs, that span from my town to Baltimore, an hour drive away, and then 30 to 45 minutes in the other direction.
My goal for a career in life is to succesfully run my own computer game programing business, and by successful, I mean make enough to get by.
My goal for how to live life is 'simply'. I want to be able to analyze the world around me, not rush through it so fast, that it would seem like rushing downhill in red wagon, only then to fall off a cliff and never now what I missed. For those who are into religion, Jesus said to live like a child(I'm not neccissarily denominating myself to a certain religious belief here, I just know people might be able to relate to that, and then understand where I'm coming from a bit more. If you ask what my religiouse belifes are, I will say, but they just don't seem relevant here. And even if your not into religion, what Jesus sais there just seems wise). For those into phylosophy, there is the alagory of the cave(if you need an explanation of this, I will gladly post it later), although I want to de-shackle myself and explore the world above in great detail, instead of someone else de-shackling me. I also try to live by the Ozy and Millie axiom of 'Never do anything phenominaly stupid.' I try to combine all of these together, and so far it has made life a blast, with the normal ups and downs of coarse.
I visit Define Cynical anytime i'm bored and at a computer with the internet and can't get away(this happens a lot with a job in a computer room where nothing ever happens, and computer classes that go nowhere fast. This site works perfectly to pass the time!), or when I want to just to type stuff, laugh, and admire the comic, like right now.
Thats me in a rather large nut-shell!
Oh, and as for this:

Quote:

Well, we play a lot of video games -- we're both big on Descent, and I play Freespace

I was actually helping to create Descent 4, before the project fell through. This was sanctioned by interplay, too!(Frankly, I didn't seal with interplay, but from what I heard of them, you don't want to work with them. That is why the project fell through!)

LotharBot and Caigan, that's pretty cool that you guys used to live by me. I live at 38th and Wadsworth (roughly) now, but I've lived all over Colorado at one time or another. And I've been to Bear Creek HS many times, for debate tournaments in high school. Wish you guys still lived here! And what is it with Washington? I think Colorado is a great place to live, but several of my high school buddies moved to Washington in the past few years, too.

And I must say, reading everyone's posts makes me feel really old (and I'm only 26!). I think just about everyone here is younger than me.
