It's quite clear why foxes are prefered - they symbolise cunning, treachery, trickery, heresy, danger, killing - qualities humanity has shown itself to be more than capable of in ample amounts. They see something of themselves in the image they crafted for the fox.

I have seen that commercial before and every time I think, "Man, Corey is getting paid for these commercials. LUCKY!" Also, he still doesn't need to wear clothes.
