The number of furries who don't like furry porn is small enough that it's a statistical anomaly.

Some are just better at hiding it.
Do you get off to furry porn?

If so, sorry, but you're a furry.
it's not 100% true. There are many people who watch at Furry Porn and are not actually furries. Beeing a furry is far more than getting aroused of its porn. Beeing a furry, is like... acting, feelinng, desire being one... it's not only about the porn. I'm no furry. Sometimes I check some yiff stuff, but I don't want to be like one. It's mostly because of the style of art (some of them have). The expretion they wanna show. Not only the pornography itself... (jees I sound like a intellectual :-p )

So... you're saying that you enjoy furry porn but aren't a furry. That stuff about spirituality, that's hardly a requirement for being a furry. A lot of people like the art style, that's it; you don't need to go "I WANT BE POLAR BEAR" to be a furry.
Beeing a furry, is like... acting, feelinng, desire being one..
If you're not a furry, how in the world do you know what it's like to feel or desire to be one? And for that matter, what gives you the right to define what a furry is? You're setting an arbitrary line that you can only be a furry if you act, feel, and desire to be an anthropomorph. How you know this without being a furry, I can only imagine. :3

On the other hand, saying that anyone who likes furry art is a furry is simply common sense. What could more accurately define a furry than appreciating furry art?

Maybe I'm just being a blatant hypocrite, but it gets on my nerves when someone goes "well, being a furry means having this feeling and this emotion" then makes sure to clarify "BUT I'M NOT A FURRY." It's ridiculous.
Anami and Anami are sitting around Anami says "GRR I AM ANGSTY LET'S EXPRESS ANGST" and so Anami says "ONE OF THE MODS ON DC IS A DICK I POSTED A PICTURE THAT WASN'T REALLY THAT INAPPROPRIATE AND THREE MODS SAW IT AND DID NOTHING THEN A FOURTH ONE SAW IT AND DELETED IT" and Anami says "OMG I HATE MODS >:("

...
I didn't said, I enjoy fp, I just look at it, didn't you check sometimes some erotic, only to catch the moment? You should know, that I wrote a paper about anthromorph-people (hard to translate it from german) (needed to write for my Phychologic-Kursus). I interviewed many of them (I knew from before), checked their lives and stuff. It's a question of definition, you say people are furry, only when they watch yiff. When you do it only sometimes, but prefer human porn, and you are still a furry? So blame me. But my definition (and the definition of many I know), is like you said: "I want to be a polar Bear". Nothing more or less. That's why I said:

You're not gay, when you sometimes look at gay stuff. Everyone got his own opinion...

It's the same, when you know what pedophiler thinks... when you know, what (most of them) desire, feel or how they act... you're not automaticaly one of them

Edit: If there is a missunderstood: I have many furry friends (some of them are not from DC ;-) ). I accept them, there is no hate or something.

If I'm getting it right, you're saying that you don't enjoy fp, you just looked at some for the sake of seeing it and for your research paper, I assume. That's fine, then it's just my mistake on that assumption.

Nevertheless, I still don't think it's logical to set the 'furry-line' at wanting to be an anthropomorph. A lot of furries I've talked to like the art, like the yiff, but laugh at the idea of wanting to be one; yet, they identify as furries. Your definition would exclude them as non-furries, though I can't see how someone getting off on the art isn't a furry.

No, you're just curious, I suppose. But I didn't say one look at yiff made you a furry. Repeatedly finding yourself aroused at it? That would imply stronger-than-incidental attraction to it, at which point I would say you're a furry.

But you make the assumption that your experience with some furries defines all of them. It's a safe bet that plenty of furries do, in fact, like the thought of being an anthropomorph.

However, having talked to way too many furries in the magic that is IRC, I can tell you that plenty would be offended by that definition, seeing as they merely enjoy the art. I contend that your definition is too specific and leaves the gaping hole of not including people who like furry art, get off to furry art, but don't want to be an anthropomorph.

That makes sense. But it's hard to define the gray zone. Some call them furries, when they are leaving the "white" (human) area. Some call them furries, when they are arriving the black (I want to be a furry!!!)-area (you can switch white and black, I don't care). When you say, it's common, when you call them furries, when they are leaving the white area, so it will be. I just used another definition :D

As you say, it all comes down to where you draw the line for being a furry. We can agree to disagree. :)

Wait, was this a rational discussion without flaming? On the internet? Goodness gracious great balls of fire.

Wouldn't the gray area be a person who just reads anthromorphic comics but isn't really a fan?

Got the issue with the commission picture worked out. It's got it's own thread in the O&M section but I'll post it here, too.
