Is Millie written to be likable?

Postby rabid_fox » Sat Mar 01, 2008 3:01 am

Controversial, likely.

Nevertheless, I always presumed that Millie was written to be a character that would wind any straight thinking person up - designed to annoy, aggravate and frustrate, essentially (with, of course, regular gags to relieve the reader of said annoyance).

So, then I come along here and scroll through some of the older topics in a rare but enjoyable idle moment. I was startled to see the "GO MILLIE!" ethos that runs through a lot of people's perception of this...key character.

I can't imagine getting quite as much enjoyment out of reading the comic without seeing Millie as an anti-hero (albeit, a naive one).

Thoughts on a postcard, then.

Cameron is awesome because:
-Because he has an artistic style that is both complex and minimalist. This is profound!
-He once drew me as a roadrunner. It was an actual honest to god feral roadrunner, but a roadrunner nonetheless!
-He lives in Idaho among the wilderness and stuff and I envy him for that. 3:
-He is probably one of the most personable artists on here.
-I think he's the only one of us on here who drew a fanart that made it as a guest strip on O&M. This is an accomplishment!

Admittedly, she annoys me a lot sometimes. I've kinda always liked Ozy a lot better.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Also my opinion is kind of void since I haven't read the comic in about a year.

I actually agree. Outside of the comic-world context, Millie would be the kid who annoys the everliving hell out of nearly anyone near her.

It's cute because we don't actually have to deal with her day-in and day-out.

Actually I'm pretty sure he wasn't. Even so, it is not that weird.

But you've been posting in the current strip threads...

He doesn't *read* the comic, he just looks at the art.

:-P

Eh, Millie's written to be her age. Her age being, specifically, and I believe this is the scientific termonology, "spaz" years old.

*shrugs*

She adds interest to what would otherwise just be Ozy standing around with his paws behind his back looking quietly befuddled at the world.

Millie probably would be annoying in real life, but luckily this is a cartoon.
