Mattress-Tag Cutting
On the last story, starting with a Llewellynland breakfast conversation, we are quickly drawn into the issue of cutting "do not remove" tags from mattresses.

Something about that kinda got to me. Not because the laws were set in place to protect consumers from vendors selling mattresses that do not properly state their fire retardant compliances or whatnot, nor the fact that to my knowledge it does not consider the act of a consumer from cutting the mattress tag illegal either. That's not important. I actually like how well he was able to incorporate his policy of allowing others to exercise their freedoms to do whatever as long as it isn't harming anyone.

It's simply the fact that now he has the U.S. against him, with border patrols around Llewellynland, and who knows what worth of diplomatic tensions. Unless the story gets finished, it's going to stay that way. Dragon splits may be all well and good, but it just doesn't feel quite complete until, as Simpson put it, "life returns to a vague approximation of 'normal.'" (Dot Comment, 2 July 2000)

I know, I'm probably ranting more than I need to, but hey, it's a healthy kind of ranting.

On a sort-of-mildly-related sidenote, I notice I'm not the only one who's been using the O&M name generator.
Adding further to the side note (since I really couldn't help checking), until I got here, I only tried it once, and didn't realize that the function was not using a random number generator. The name generator also returns the correct title used in the comic for Llewellyn. See for yourself.

A bit back onto the mattress tag cutting. The law (and most tags) specifically state that it is legal for the consumer to cut mattress tags. This is a big misconception in our culture. But once the mattress tag is cut off the owner cannot sell it to anyone else. The reason why the law is there (which I agree with) is so that people don't sell shoddy merchandise (like not stating what the fire hazard is). If you want an absurd law: in Michigan if you get burglarized and the burglar gets injured in your hose he can hold you liable. Now explain that one.

ok could weird ones
In one state individual marganine(sp) had to served a certain way. Thing is the only time this law was mention was on the Army bulk packages of marganine9sp)
Until recently it was illegal for black and white couple to marry in Al. Took another state admendment to remove that law. So I can imagine oz and mille parents having problems applying for an licence.
In my home town it is illegal to shoot rabbits from the trolley. This was fun because until about 10 years ago Montgomery did not have a trolley running. And the current one is more of shuttle than a route.
Oh and the other reason too.
Heh. Most laws say "don't" and mean "don't hurt yourself", like no jaywalking. An odd law (at least around here" is that there is no age for smoking cigarettes. However, there is an age for buying. Hm... Lets see... If you're smoking, you obviosly bought them, and yet you can't get in trouble for just smoking.
Hm... Is it... Quebec, where Margarine cannot legally be yellow. I had a book that had all the best ones. I'll try to find it.
on the sidenote: the quote under my avatar *whatever u call it* is from the O&M name generator, although i believe it was the one from Mish, another of my nicknames, but id had a hard time making it show that, also its the sixth. i obviously would have used magorien, but somehow i liked mish better *shrug*
on the odd laws: CA has laws about what can legally be called duct tape. if it dosnt meet certain temperature standards it cant be called duct tape! course the reason for this law is that duct tape is used on the heating and cooling duct work in houses *hence the name and colour* so if it starts melting, its not "duct tape"
on the mattress cutting storyline: Excuse me miss, how many MATRESSES are you hiding on your person?
*SNNERK*
i can see millie doing this over and over again just for the simple joy of it...

I think this might have been adressed and removed from law within the past few years, but still... come on! Does this say something of the area i now live in?
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.
